NSFAS is a government entity under the Department of Higher Education and Training established according to the NSFAS Act (Act 56 of 1999) to provide financial support to disadvantaged students who wish to further their studies at public universities or TVET colleges.
The mission of Central Technical College is to educate and develop students to become professionals in the fields of engineering, management, and the humanities. They have both full-time and part-time courses available. Short-term learning programs are also available. There are four campuses, each with its own set of classes.
Documents required by NSFAS for this year academic application
Make sure you have certified and legal copies of the following documents before you apply for funding:
1. A birth certificate in its original form or a South African identity document/card (if you are younger than 16 years old)
2. Identification of the parents and/or guardians (or death certificate where applicable)
3. Statement of earnings (pay advice/letter of employment/pension advice) (SASSA slips are not required and SASSA should not be included as household income)
4. A completed and signed consent form, which may be found here and must be signed by your incomes, will be refused and declared incomplete.
Please keep in mind that if you have a disability, you must be accompanied by your parents or guardians. Please download the Disability Annexure A from www.nsfas.org.za, fill it out, and submit it with your application.
Who qualifies for NSFAS funding?
- All South African citizens
- All SASSA grant recipients qualifies for funding
- Applicants whose combined household income is not more than R350 000 per annum
- Person with disability: Combined household income must not be more than R600 000 per annum
- Students who started studying before 2018 whose household income is not more than R122 000 per annum.
Who should not apply?
- Students that have completed a previous qualification.
- Students with a combined household income of more than R350 000 per annum.
- Students who have already applied, qualified and received funding. They are automatically funded for the duration of their studies provided they pass their modules and meet the academic requirements.
- Foreign students (any student who is not a South African citizen).
