NSFAS is a government entity under the Department of Higher Education and Training established according to the NSFAS Act (Act 56 of 1999) to provide financial support to disadvantaged students who wish to further their studies at public universities or TVET colleges.

NSFAS provides financial assistance to students who are unable to pay their own fees and have a household income of less than R350 000 per year. NSFAS funding is used for more than just paying tuition. It also includes books, accommodation, and transportation, among other things.

You must apply to or study at colleges that offer financial aid. NSFAS will not aid students who intend to study at private colleges.

How to Apply for colleges with NSFAS

1. You have to visit the NSFAS website: www.nsfas.org.za online
2. Then, you have to click on the “myNSFAS” tab
3. After that, you create your myNSFAS account
4. After creating myNSFAS account, you then have to click on the “Apply” tab
5. Answer the following questions you see on your screen
6. Update all your personal information
7. Upload all the required supporting documents
8. Lastly, Click on “Submit” to send your application for review.
