A TVET institution prepares you for vocations that are more suitable for people who do not wish to sit in an office all day. Locally and internationally, there is frequently more employment available in fields that TVET colleges serve.
The advantage of attending a TVET college is that it places a strong emphasis on students’ employability, with part of the curriculum requiring students to complete experiential training (internships and apprenticeships), which helps build experience on your resume. Courses are not offered at all colleges.
However, because many TVET courses prepare students for employment in the scarce skills sector, such as teaching and metallurgical engineering, more opportunities are available. This is preferable to having a university diploma and being unemployed.

The advantages of attending a TVET college
TVET colleges prepare students for a variety of jobs by teaching them practical and other skills. Entrepreneurial skills learned at TVET colleges can be applied to develop enterprises in a variety of fields, including catering, construction, IT, tourism, and hairdressing.
The focus on skills development, or using hands-on instruction, is what makes TVET Colleges successful. This assists students and future job seekers in acquiring not only the necessary subject-matter knowledge but also the necessary capabilities to meet the expectations of employers and economic stakeholders.

What is the cost of attending a TVET college?

For example, average college spending per student for NC(V) qualifications ranging from R20 000 to R40 000 per year, but average college spending per student for NATED courses ranged from R15 000 to R36 000 per year. The fees per program for some of the courses offered at TVET colleges are shown in Table 1.
The government subsidizes the colleges to the tune of 80%, making the tuition affordable. Those who cannot afford the fees might inquire about applying for bursaries through the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS).
