Here are the documents you need to submit when submitting your NSFAS online application:
All applicants:
- Copy of your ID
- Must have consent from the parent(s), guardian or spouse to submit their personal information for validation and verification. Once you accept the applicable terms and conditions, you confirm that you have received consent from all relevant parties.
If the applicant is dependent on their parents/guardian/spouse, they must provide:
- ID copies of parent(s), guardian or spouse
- Proof of income (payslip/UIF letter/appointment letter/recruitment letter) of parent(s), guardian or spouse where applicable

If the applicant has a disability, they must provide:
- A completed Disability Annexure A (if their information is not pre-populated on the online application form)
If you are a SASSA recipient then no proof of income is required.
To upload missing/outstanding documents for your 2021 application, follow these steps:
- Sign in to your myNSFAS account
- Upload the requested missing documents
- Press submit
NSFAS says they are unable to process your application if it has missing/outstanding supporting documents.
UNIVERSITY
- Accommodation
As per the actual costs charged by the university (costs for private accommodation must not exceed costs for university residence) - Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7 500 per annum
- Living allowance R15, 000 per annum
- Book allowances R5200 per annum
- Incidental/personal care allowance R2900 per annum for students in catered residences
TVET
- Accommodation in an urban area is R24,000 per annum
- Accommodation in a peri-urban area R18,900 per annum
- Accommodation in a rural area is R15,750 per annum
- Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7,350 per annum
- Transport R7000 per annum
- Incidental/personal care allowance R2900 per annum
Who qualifies for NSFAS funding?
- All South African citizens
- All SASSA grant recipients qualify for funding
- Applicants whose combined household income is not more than R350 000 per annum
- A person with a disability: Combined household income must not be more than R600 000 per annum
- Students who started studying before 2018 whose household income is not more than R122 000 per annum.

Who should not apply?
- Students that have completed a previous qualification.
- Students with a combined household income of more than R350 000 per annum.
- Students who have already applied, qualified and received funding. They are automatically funded for the duration of their studies provided they pass their modules and meet the academic requirements.
- Foreign students (any student who is not a South African citizen).
How to register for myNSFAS account
- Navigate to www.nsfas.org.za login.
- Click myNSFAS tab.
- Click register.
- Tick the box to allow NSFAS to verify your details.
- Then capture the ID number as stated on your ID document.
- Type in your full names and surname as per your ID number.
- Type in your current email address.
- Confirm your email address.
- Type in your cellphone number.
- Create a password.
- Confirm password.
- Upload ID Copy.
- Click register.
- You will be sent an OTP to the email and cell number provided (this OTP expires after 24 hours).
- Type in the OTP and click Submit.
- You have now completed your NSFAS account re-registration.
If you already have an account, you can sign in with your username and password, as well as your Facebook and Google accounts. Remember that, your phone number and email address must be unique to you and cannot be shared.
