Applicants must follow the steps necessary to receive positive results from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS). The following are the requirements that applicants must meet in order to apply.
Applicants must meet the follow requirement below.
To avoid rejection from the nsfas board, candidates should ensure that they meet the following minimum entrance criteria before apply
- Citizen of South Africa
- Obtain an SASSA grant
- Total annual household income is less than R350 000
- Applying to a TVET College or a public institution to study
- Already enrolled as a university student with an annual household income of less than R122 000
- Passed grades 9 and 10 to be eligible for TVET College funding • Passed Matric to be eligible for University funding
- Enrolling in a public university for an undergraduate degree or a public TVET college for a National Certificate Vocational/Report 191 program for the first time.
Applicants should NOT apply if they don’t meet the following criteria:
- Foreign student (NOT a South African citizen)
- Total household income is over R350 000 per annum
- Completed a previous tertiary qualification
- Already applied and received funding
COVERAGE VALUE
The following study-related expenses will be covered by the DHET Bursary:
- Registration fee
- Tuition fee
- Book allowances with discounts
- Subsidized housing (up to a specific amount, as determined by NSFAS)
- Prescribed learning materials (up to a certain amount, as determined by NSFAS) (up to a certain amount, as set by NSFAS)
- Meal allowances that are subsidized
