As a result, the National Students Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) offers bursaries to teaching enthusiasts around the country.

Teachers’ NSFAS Bursary Application Requirements

The conditions listed below are for instructors seeking financial aid from the National Students Financial Aid Program.

To apply for any of the NSFAS teacher bursaries, the following fundamental requirements must be met:

• Applicants must be South African nationals.

• Meet the admissions requirements of the institutions of their choice / provide proof of registration or acceptance to the university of their choice

If an applicant is awarded a bursary, he or she must pass all courses and finish the qualification within the minimal time frame specified by the university to avoid having to refund the bursary money.

Certified copies of the following documents are required for applications.

• Proof of university acceptance/registration

• ID document

• Grade 12 results

• Parent/ID guardian’s and job documents (salary slips/pensions slips if applicable/affidavit if unemployed)

Students with Disabilities Bursary

This bursary program, run by the Department of Higher Education and Training, is open to disabled students interested in studying in any subject as long as they are enrolled in authorized higher and further education and training programs.
Candidates must be intellectually qualified as well as financially disadvantaged (as determined by the NSFAS Means Test or at the discretion of the Disability Support Unit).

The NSFAS bursary also covers the costs of an assistive device or human support that the student needs in order to improve their quality of life
