NSFAS is a government entity under the Department of Higher Education and Training established according to the NSFAS Act (Act 56 of 1999) to provide financial support to disadvantaged students who wish to further their studies at public universities or TVET colleges.
You may choose to submit an appeal if your funding application was denied by nsfas. However, how can you make the case for nsfas? This article will give you all of the information you need to complete this assignment correctly.
New students who were denied NSFAS funding this year must file an appeal with NSFAS directly through the MyNSFAS portal by following the steps below:
- Log into your “MyNSFAS” account on www.nsfas.org.za
- Click the ‘Track Funding Progress’ option
- Check the application progress tabs
- If your application status reflects an unsuccessful message, you may submit an appeal by clicking on the ‘Submit Appeal Tab’
- Once you are on the ‘Application Appeal’ page, you can see the reason for your unsuccessful application status
- You are then able to motivate in writing the reasons for appealing your application status
- Your motivation must not exceed 1000 characters (words including spaces)
- Then upload certified supporting documents to support your motivation. You may submit up to 5 documents.
- Then click ‘Submit Appeal ‘
- You may now track the progress of the appeal on your myNSFAS account
Only the following grounds will be considered in nsfas online appeal form:
- Material adjustment in combined household income (proof of loss of income needed with a fully completed NSFAS form for students that were not previously funded);
- Loss of a bursary/sponsor in the 2019 academic cycle (documented proof should be delivered and should be accompanied by a fully completed NSFAS application form);
- college; and
- Applying for an approved post graduate qualification (see section F on the appeal form for list). Failure to meet academic criteria where prior academic performance has been satisfactory (provide supporting information and documentation that provides details of the reasons that affected performance);
- Failure to meet academic criteria due to medical condition (s) or death of an immediate family member (provide supporting information and documentation);
- Student had a gap year in NSFAS funding or failed to register previously and could not reapply for funding;
- More than one student from the same household concurrently enrolled at a university/TVET
If they fail to meet academic performance requirements, institutions must investigate and evaluate all progression appeals and provide a recommendation to NSFAS. The Financial Aid Committee Chairperson is required to sign this submission on behalf of the Institution. NSFAS Appeals should be directed to Mr. K Sauls of the Centre for Bursaries and Loans.
Any additional appeals: Students must submit their appeals to the Financial Aid Office of the institution, together with any required supporting documents, for review by the Appeals Committee.
