The University of the Free State is a multi-campus public university in Bloemfontein, the capital of the Free State and the judicial capital of South Africa. It was first established as an institution of higher learning in 1904 as a tertiary section of Grey College. It was declared an independent Afrikaans-language university in 1950 and the name was changed to the University of the Orange Free State. The university has two satellite campuses. Initially, a whites-only precinct, the university was fully de-segregated in 1996. The first black university vice-chancellor was appointed in 2010.

Requirement needed to apply

1. Certified copy of your ID document(ID document compulsory for SA citizens – your application cannot be processed without a certified copy of your ID and Passport Number for International Applicants
2. Exam Results: Final Grade 12 results (if available). Grade 11 results (if currently doing grade 12) are very important for your application. Thus, have it on hand.
3. Remember you will need an email address when applying either online or in a hard copy. Note that the following systems do not accept emails from some of the universities: Hotmail, Webmail, Ymail, Outlook and Live. It is advisable to create and use a Gmail address for the application. You do not have to pay an application fee.

Applicants are required to take note of the application deadline below:

• UFS application is open and admission registration is still ongoing.
• UFS Applications to study non-selection programmes in 2022/2023, close on 30 September 2022.
• The University of the Free State Application Portal is expected to shut down on the same date at 11:59 PM.

How to Apply UFS online 2022-2023

Visit https://apply.ufs.ac.za. Keep your mobile phone and an active email address ready,
as you require both to access and complete the online application form.
Proceed through all the steps and submit your electronic application. Make sure that
you complete the application form properly, e.g. if you need an on-campus residence
accommodation or financial aid, indicate this in the relevant section

Upload copies of the following in PDF or JPEG format when you apply for undergraduate
studies:

• Your ID if you are a South African citizen
• Your passport if you are an international student
• Your parent’s ID or passport if you are younger than 18
• Your final Grade 11 results with the school’s stamp
• Grade 12 June results with the school’s stamp as soon as it becomes available.
• National Senior Certificate (NSC) if you have already matriculated
• Your academic record, only if you are/were a student at another institution of higher
learning
• USAf accreditation from the examination board for South African universities. Apply to
mb.usaf.ac.za for conditional exemption, foreign conditional exemption, or mature age
conditional exemption.
