NSFAS stands for the National Student Financial Aid Scheme and they provide bursaries to University and College students who come from poor and working class backgrounds. NSFAS applications open in August/September and close in November/December
The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) will have an online application available in 2023-2024. There is a deadline for each online application. This year’s NSFAS application period will last four months, starting on August 3 and finishing on November 30. No late applications will be accepted.
Who should not apply?
- Students that have completed a previous qualification.
- Students with a combined household income of more than R350 000 per annum.
- Students who have already applied, qualified and received funding. They are automatically funded for the duration of their studies provided they pass their modules and meet the academic requirements.
- Foreign students (any student who is not a South African citizen)
How to Apply for NSFAS Online Application before the closing date
- Visit NSFAS Application website: www.nsfas.org.za
- Then, you click on the ‘myNSFAS’ tab
- Create a myNSFAS account. If you don’t know how to create, click HERE
- Click on the ‘APPLY’ tab
- Update your personal information
- Answer the questions you see on the screen
- Upload all the required supporting documents
- Finally, you click on ‘submit
Who qualifies for NSFAS funding?
- All South African citizens
- All SASSA grant recipients qualifies for funding
- Applicants whose combined household income is not more than R350 000 per annum
- Person with disability: Combined household income must not be more than R600 000 per annum
- Students who started studying before 2018 whose household income is not more than R122 000 per annum.
